Travis Fraser

TravisFraserTravis is clarinet section leader, a board member, and a founding member of QUO.

How did you come to join QUO?
I heard a rumor over the summer that a gay orchestra was going to start in the fall and I decided then and there that nothing was going to keep me from joining. At that time I didn’t own an “A” clarinet, which is essential for orchestral playing. So I signed on to EBay, found a horn, prayed that it would actually work – and it did! I showed up at the first rehearsal and the rest is history!

What is your favorite place to take friends visiting NYC?
I basically take my friends on an eating tour of the city. The one touristy thing I always make sure they do is take the Staten Island Ferry. You can’t find a better view of downtown and the Statue of Liberty. Also – Nathan’s Hot Dogs and beer.

What musical symbol best defines you and why?
Dolce – because I love to play a sweet melody.

How long have you been playing your instrument?
I started playing in the 5th grade – let’s just keep it at that.

Question from Brooks: What has been your favorite concert with QUO and why?
I have two favorite concerts – the QUOtets where we played Appalachian Spring in the original arrangement for 13 Instruments – what a glorious piece, and such an amazing clarinet part. I also loved the concert that we played Peter and The Wolf on – I had a ball being a cat!
