QUO’s new artistic director Ian Shafer and new assistant conductor Luke Nosal take the podium for our February concert, “Soliloquy Of Dreams.”
This concert feature the winner of QUO’s annual concerto competition, flutist Justin Lee. The program includes:
- Debussy: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
- Gabrieli: Canzon Per Sonar Septimi Toni A 8
- Griffes: Poem for Flute and Orchestra
- Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade

Our next live, in-person concert is “The Music That Drives Us.”
This concert opens with Adolphus Hailstork‘s Epitaph For A Man Who Dreamed, which commemorates and mourns the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We’re then joined by the “utterly radiant” (Canada’s Arts Forum), and “exceptionally heartfelt and soulful” (St. Maarten’s Daily Herald) violinist Andrew Sords for Saint-Saens’ Violin Concerto No. 3. We conclude the evening with the monumental Symphony No. 4 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Doors open at 7:15. All tickets will be held at the door, and all patrons must be vaccinated and masked. See our important covid protocols below.

QUO is thrilled to return to live performances. Join us for our season-opening: “The Music That Drives Us.”
The first piece QUO will perform as an ensemble since the pandemic began will be from Pulitzer-prize winning LGBT composer Jennifer Higdon: Fanfare Ritmico. We missed celebrating Beethoven’s 250th birthday together, but we’ll celebrate now with the “poised, alert musicianship” (Boston Globe) of guest Spencer Myer, who will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. We conclude with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.

In our 2017-2018 season, QUO presents We Are One: A musical journey around the world exploring the depths of the human condition. The fourth cycle in our concert features two world premieres: one by Clint Borzoni, winner of QUO's 2017-2018 composition competition, and one by QUO's own trumpter-extraordinaire, Ron Nahass. Continuing our commitment to performing works by women composers, we are also featuring a work by Augusta Holmès.

- DiMari: Ascension
- Tchaikovsky: Excerpts from “The Nutcracker”
Our regular concert of the series will be performed Sunday afternoon, December 17, at 3 pm at the Church of the Holy Apostles. Join us at 2:15 for our pre-concert discussion!
We will also be performing the program at the Queens Museum in Flushing Meadows Park on Saturday afternoon, December 16, at 5 pm. This will be an abbreviated version of the concert and will be open to the public. Hence, reservations for Saturday are not required, but please consider donating the price of a ticket if you would like to attend that concert.

Our first concert, Never Back Down, explores how tenacity in our lives is reflected in music — from the multiple versions Beethoven and Brahms needed before they were satisfied with these works to the pioneering works of openly gay composers Gerald Busby and Julius Eastman.
