Drew Acquaviva

DrewAcquavivaDrew plays viola and joined QUO in September 2014

How did you come to join QUO?
I was searching around for different orchestras when I first moved here last August and found some others but found QUO through James of the viola section. He sent me to the site and I fell in love with the 2014-2015 season program and never looked back.

What is your favorite place to take friends visiting NYC?
My favorite places to take friends in the city are all of my favorite restaurants, especially in Chelsea. I especially love Bareburger! Of course, my absolute favorite place to take friends is to QUO concerts!

What musical symbol best defines you and why?
The best musical symbol to define me is the accidental. Like me, it spices things up, opens a piece up to lots of different directions, and a lot of them in a row becomes annoying!

How long have you been playing viola?
I’ve been playing the viola for about 17 years, ever since the 3rd grade. I originally wanted to play violin, but my parents thought I was only choosing violin because my crush at the time (a girl, if you can believe it!) was. So almost out of spite, I chose the viola, and never looked back!

Question from Navida: If you could have dinner with any composer, living or dead, who would it be, what would you talk about and what would be the drink of the evening?
I’d have dinner with Brahms. We’d talk about his composing genius, especially how he could create such interesting chords under his melodies. And we’d drink Moscow Mules all night.
