QUO’s 2018-2019 Composition Contest

Thank you for your interest in QUO's 2018-2019 composition contest.

QUO’s annual composition contest serves to find and promote the creative talent of composers who identify as members or allies of the LGBTQ community by performing in concert a newly written work chosen by the search committee. In addition to the performance, a pre-concert lecture and discussion of the work will be presented to the public
and a cash award will be given.

  • All composers are welcome to apply without restrictions
  • The composition should be a maximum length of ten (10) minutes with an orchestration
    limited to: 3(2Fl+picc), 2*(2nd dbl EH), 2(Bcl poss) 2(CFg poss) – 4 2 3 1 – tmp+2 – str

  • Composition under consideration must be a world premiere.
  • Consideration will be given to the relevance to the organization’s mission and the theme of the
    orchestra’s season.

  • Submissions via this web page must be made by January 31, 2019.
  • The selected candidate will be responsible for supplying a printed/bound score and a digital
copy of a full set of parts.

  • The search committee reserves the right to not select any submission.

  • A preconcert lecture and “Meet the Composer” before the May 11th performance
  • A performance at our concert on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 8pm at the Church of the Holy Apostles in New York, NY, and the possibility of a second performance at our encore concert the next day at 4pm.
  • A cash prize of $250.

This is a blind selection process: make sure that your name and other identifying information DO NOT appear on the score or any other links you submit. Applications through this form are sent to a QUO staff member, who will number them and submit the anonymous list of submissions to the adjudication panel.
